THE BGM OFFERS A VITAL PLATFORM FOR US, OUR INDUSTRY’S LEADERS, TO REAFFIRM OUR COMMITMENT TO WANO.
On behalf of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and EDF Energy, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to attend the 2019 WANO Biennial General Meeting (BGM). As EDF and EDF Energy were founding members of WANO, I am particularly proud to be hosting the BGM, our industry’s most prestigious event, in the UK during WANO’s 30th anniversary year.
- a country which pioneered civil nuclear power
- a country which benefits from nuclear power today
- a country which has made nuclear power part of its long term future
- the home of WANO's headquarters
To help celebrate this momentous occasion, in addition to the global nuclear leaders of today, we have extended a special invitation to our past WANO Presidents, Chairmen, Managing Directors and CEOs. We hope many will join us.
The BGM provides a platform for us, our industry’s leaders, to reaffirm our commitment to WANO, to nuclear safety and to realign ourselves as we tackle the major issues facing the nuclear power industry globally.
The theme chosen for this year’s BGM is 30 Years of WANO: Generating a Safer Future Together. The BGM project team has put together a stimulating programme comprising keynote speakers, panel discussions and displays. We have listened to your feedback and have created more time for you to interact with one another. We will also have the opportunity to recognise colleagues that have contributed most to furthering our WANO mission at the traditional Nuclear Excellence Awards dinner.
Our venue, on the banks of the River Thames and next to the London ‘Millennium Dome’, is located in Greenwich, famous for its Observatory, Royal Park, maritime heritage and probably most of all famous for Greenwich Mean Time and the International Date Line.
This is the location where East really does meet West.
I look forward to welcoming you to London.
