30 YEARS OF WANO: GENERATING A SAFER FUTURE TOGETHER

The World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) unites every company and country in the world with an operating commercial nuclear power plant to achieve the highest possible standards of nuclear safety.

WANO’s Biennial General Meeting (BGM) brings together all the organisation’s members and is a must-attend event for chief executives from commercial nuclear power plants and other nuclear facilities. It is an opportunity to review WANO’s progress and provide guidance for its future.

Over 490 delegates attended the BGM in Gyeongju, South Korea in October 2017, as the leaders of our industry united to renew their commitment to nuclear safety.

BGM sessions take place over two days and are supported by a series of hosted technical tours and networking events.

Sessions include presentations from industry experts and interactive panel discussions. Delegates will gain insights into contemporary nuclear safety challenges and responses.

In 2019, WANO marks its 30th anniversary. The organisation has adapted over these three decades to serve the global industry as it has evolved. The challenges of the future will also require WANO to continue to be responsive to its members’ needs and to support its members to be successful in the next three decades.

The 2019 BGM, jointly hosted by EDF Energy and WANO Paris Centre, will be an occasion at which the industry can mark and reflect on the history of this unique organisation, while looking ahead together with a united view on the next 30 years of safe and reliable operations worldwide. Hence our BGM theme:
